Lucca's Trattoria opened in Tiong Bahru in 2012. It is named after the walled Tuscan city that inspired its owners, and serves the kind of food people in Lucca eat every day. The room has Carrara marble, a mosaic logo made in Rome and an open kitchen. Meat and fish are grilled in a Josper charcoal oven.
Order the tordelli lucchese, crescent-shaped pasta filled with pork and pine nuts in meat sauce. The ribollita and the pappardelle with rabbit braised in red wine are also good. The kitchen makes its own ravioli and hand-pulls its pizzas. Try the pistachio and mortadella pizza, then finish with necci, Tuscan chestnut pancakes, or the Segafredo-soaked tiramisu.
Families and groups are well served, and the walk-in cellar holds more than 200 labels. It opens daily for lunch and dinner. Groups of seven or more pay a minimum spend. Havelock MRT is five minutes' walk away.
