Mondo Mio has been part of the Robertson Quay riverwalk for many years, run by Italian owner Gabriele, who has worked in Singapore's restaurant trade for around 25 years. The cooking is Southern Italian, built on seafood, tomatoes, citrus and olive oil, with Italian and local chefs in the kitchen and imported produce on the shelves.
Pasta is made in-house; trofie with pesto, gnocchetti with prawns and the house pappardelle are good choices, and the carbonara and squid-ink risotto have their followers. Pizzas are thin and crisp, with the Mondo Mio and four-cheese versions the most ordered. For mains, the veal ossobuco with saffron risotto is the dish to come back for, alongside charcoal-grilled tenderloin and a mixed seafood grill. Finish with tiramisu.
It suits a relaxed dinner by the river with friends or family. It is closed on Mondays, opens from 4pm on weekdays and serves lunch at weekends. Book through Chope.
