Fortuna was opened in 2024 by three friends from Agrigento in Sicily, Egon Marzaioli, pizzaiolo Giorgio Sorce and chef Omar Tutino, after running the original Fortuna in Sydney. The Craig Road shophouse is bright and busy, with banquettes, a wall of bottles and a Valoriani wood-fired oven at the back.
The pizza dough ferments for 50 hours and comes three ways: classic Neapolitan, fried then baked, and double-baked in a pan. Start with the wood-fired bread and ricotta dip, then try the thousand-layer Sicilian lasagna with Bronte pistachio, spaghetti with Mazara king prawns, or mafalde ragù finished at the table with flamed provolone. Fortunamisu, their tiramisu, is the usual finish.
It suits groups and birthdays more than quiet dinners, and lunch fills up, so book ahead. Pizzas come in two sizes, which helps when sharing. The same team runs Fortuna Terrazza, an Amalfi-themed brunch café a few doors away at 10 Craig Road.
