Artista Cucina

Artista Cucina is a small family-run room on Jalan Canggu Padang Linjong, about five minutes from Echo Beach; look for the cream Vespa parked outside. Lucio, the Italian chef, cooks each dish to order while his wife Jessica runs the floor, and the place has been in Canggu for around two years.

There is no pizza here, so come for pasta. The spaghetti carbonara is made the Roman way with imported guanciale, pecorino and egg yolk, and the spaghetti with vongole and bottarga and the spaghetti pescatora are the seafood picks. Orecchiette with a pork ragù braised in Montepulciano, burrata with mortadella and pistachio, and a 1.2kg Black Angus tomahawk for sharing round things out, with tiramisù to finish. Most pastas come in regular or large.

It works well for a quiet dinner for two or a small group at the long table. It is open daily from 11am to 10.30pm, and bookings are by WhatsApp with no deposit. The wine list is all Italian.
