GENIO by Twist

GENIO is the pizza and pasta project of the team behind Twist, one of Ubud's better-known restaurants, set on Jalan Sukma Kesuma in Peliatan, a short ride south-east of central Ubud. The ground floor has outdoor tables and wooden furniture, and an air-conditioned upstairs room looks out over the neighbourhood.

The Neapolitan-style margherita is the reason to come: a soft, puffy crust with charred edges and a well-balanced tomato sauce. The pancetta e aglio pizza with garlic confit, the quattro formaggi and the prosciutto pizza are popular, and there are several vegan pizzas too. On the pasta side, spaghetti pomodoro is the dish diners rate most, and the bacon and avocado salad makes a good starter.

Prices are low for the quality, so it works for families, groups and a casual lunch between sights. It opens early for breakfast, which runs all day alongside the Italian menu, and closes at 10pm. Tables can be booked through Chope.
