Portofino takes its cue from the Ligurian coast rather than the rice terraces, with a smart, air-conditioned dining room and a street-side terrace on Jalan Raya Pengosekan in central Ubud. The kitchen makes its pasta in-house and bakes pizza in a wood-fired oven, and there is underground parking, which is rare in this part of town.
Pasta is the main draw: lamb ragù rigatoni, fettuccine carbonara, pesto alla genovese and a pumpkin and chorizo ravioli with brown butter and sage. Start with the burrata and burnt tomato salad or fried zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta, then add an nduja or capricciosa pizza for the table. Veal scaloppini with homemade fettuccine is the pick of the mains.
It suits a date night or an unhurried dinner with friends, and the bar serves an Aperol spritz, negroni sbagliato and espresso martini from lunch until late. Pastas and pizzas mostly sit between Rp130k and Rp155k before tax and service. Walk-ins are welcome, but booking online or via WhatsApp is wise in the evening.
