Expatriate opened on Kelapa Gading's Boulevard Raya in 2016 and has kept a loyal following since. The room is rustic, with chandeliers, copper pans and Italian music. It feels like a wine bar as much as a restaurant, and on Fridays and Saturdays it stays open until 2am.
Regulars recommend the thin, crisp prosciutto pizza, the truffle mafaldine, the black-ink pasta and the gnocchi. If you want something more substantial, there is dry-aged beef, osso buco and a wagyu picanha steak. Bresaola is a light way to start. The tiramisu is popular and often sells out, so order it early. Coffee and gelato are also on offer.
It suits groups of friends and relaxed evenings over a bottle of wine, and the late licence makes it a good choice after other places have closed. Booking ahead is worthwhile at weekends. It has a single location in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
